4 Tips to update your living room on a budget!
Slow and steady wins the race, right? Not in my head. I was ready to renovate the whole house once we got the keys. I was humbled once our A/C unit went out a month after we moved in. Thankfully, we had a little saved to be able to renovate our living room. Here’s a few budget friendly ways we were able to revive our living room.
Paint
Who knew paint could take a room from dull to lively? The previous owners decided dark grey would be a color of choice for new buyers. NOT! It made the room cold and dull. I’m not going to lie when we moved our furniture in, I was scared to sit in that room lol. So I knew if I really wanted to be happy in my home and invite others over, I had to lighten this room up. So I went to Home Depot and got a few paint swatches. I found the popular paint color agreeable grey which is by Sherwin Williams but Home Depot was able to color match with Behr. My eyes lit up with amazement once my aunt and uncle started painting. Someone pinch me, this is really MY home!
Small Finds
Around the time we purchased our home, stores were just starting to open back up thanks to Covid-19. So I had to be creative with my finds. I shopped online and in-store. Tj Maxx, Marshalls, Home Goods, Ross, IKEA, and Hobby Lobby was my go to for everything. Don't sleep on these stores as well Roses, Big Lots, Thrift Stores, and Michaels. They havw great finds at a decent price. I ordered my rugs online and found a lot of dupes on Amazon. My favorite decor item is faux plants and different little antiques to put in random spots that are cold and lonely.
Time To Get Creative
Since everyone was quarantined, home decor was becoming extinct. It was so hard to find things at a reasonable price. Let alone in stock and ready to ship out. I had to get resourceful. I purchased huge picture frames from Ikea which can also be found at Michaels and snagged affordable art from Etsy, printed it out at Walgreens. BAM a $100 frame for my living room was easily made for around $30-$40.
Holiday Sales
Black Friday/ Cyber Monday is hands down the best time to purchase any larger electronics. We moved into our house around Memorial Day so a lot of items were on sale too. When you’re in the market for mattresses wait until President’s day! They’re always on sale around then! The best time to purchase items is when they’re out of season. Once Halloween is over everything is on clearance. Purchase those items for the following year! *Boom* decor is halfway done for next year and you got it for an amazing price!
Have Fun
Create mood boards and surf pinterest and google to see what you like. I also used home decor hashtags on instagram and found inspiration. You may never feel completely satisifed with your area. At least have a foundation of what you really want to accomplish. I loved using apps like OVER and Canva to allow the space to be brought to life. Also Target has a new 3-D feature where you can place the product on your wall or any living space you plan to put it. Do you have any go to favorite decor places I didn’t list, share below?
