Hot Cocoa Capital: Elizabeth City, NC
*This post is sponsored but all opinions are my own*
Hey friends! The Faltz-McQueens had an opportunity to experience the Hot Cocoa Capital of the World. Elizabeth City, NC is filled with history and Hot Cocoa. Travelers can visit many restaurants, shops, craft breweries, wine bars and cocktail lounges to try unique hot cocoa beverages and desserts until January 15th. Keep reading to see why you should visit the Hot Cocoa Capital this holiday season.
Hot Cocoa Please
Our first stop on the Hot Cocoa train was the beautiful and yummy The SweetEasy. We stepped into a cozy shop with gourmet goods, hand-crafted beverages, and quality service. The macaroons and sweet cupcakes were to die for. The kids asked for more as they drooled over the holiday macaroon flavors like Peppermint, Cake Batter, and “Grinch”.
We added extra milk to our Hot Cocoa to keep it cool and it was so so delicious. We actually visited them again while we attended the Elizabeth City Christmas Parade, in which was so fun and entertaining.
Oh, did I mention they also ship different cookie flavor boxes. I will definitely add this to my list for Christmas. Every single treat was made fresh and to perfection.
Oh Saint Nick
We walked to Seven Sounds and met a special person. It was such a pleasant surprise for the kiddos. They told him everything they wanted for Christmas (which was a long grocery list of items haha). When we walked through the brewery, Seven Sounds had more special guests; Christmas Carolers. They sung so beautifully.
Hand Tossed Pizza, Yes please!
Our next stop for dinner was at the infamous Elizabeth City Pizza Company. I loved showing the kiddos how pizza is made right in front of them. We literally saw our pizza hand tossed and topped with yummy cheese. Each pizza was placed into a wood fire oven, which gave the crust the right amount of crisp. I’d recommend the Cheese and Margherita pizzas. Although, I’m sure any flavor is just as yummy as the rest. Each bite we took, we couldn’t help but have a mini danceathon with the richness of flavors and cheese. We accompanied our pizza with a can of soda and it was just what we needed to flush it down. As you can see, we ate a lot of slices and our bellies were full. We couldn't leave without a special treat. . .
Cocoa Bombe Dessert
We each got a yummy Cocoa bombe dessert after pizza and it was so delicious. Maverick went after the eyes first, while Audrey tried the ears. Mom and dad had a chocolate bomb filled with cherry and almonds. 10/10 recommend. The chocolate and vanilla ice cream mixed inside was a treat as well. We ate it all and couldn’t help but sit for a few to let our tummies digest all the goodness. While we sat, we got a closer look at pastries right outside our window.
Let’s Play and learn
The next day on our Hot Cocoa Crawl, we tried The Market on Water Street. We each tried a biscuit and OMG to die for. They have so many yummy dishes to choose from and treats. After we snagged breakfast, we ventured off to Port Discover. Each child fell in love with each station. Airplane simulators, food market, car stations, and more. We probably overstayed our welcome haha. While there, we did a stem project and created catapults for our hot cocoa. Audrey loved this station. We flung marshmallows into the hot cocoa with popsicle sticks. It was so fun and a great learning experience. We also had hot yummy popcorn.
After the fun, we had lunch at Hoppin’ Johnz and tried our first fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. We loved the food there and the rich character surrounded us on the walls. After we left we had time to walk around town and sightsee. We drove pass Elizabeth City State University. It’s such a beautiful campus and it’s large. It was my first time visiting the illustrious University. A few hours later, it was time to visit the Elizabeth City Christmas Parade. Audrey had the time of her life. She got so many goodies from the participants in the parade. She also was amazed by the creative floats and music.
Once we left the parade it was time to head to Montero’s Restaurant & Bar. O M G, the customer service and food was immaculate. I also learned the owner was from my town, what a small world. Hubby and I chose seafood and we weren’t disappointed. I couldn’t stop raving to my family about how amazing the dish was.
Our last day on our trip, we headed to the Kraken. There were so many yummy flavors of Hot Cocoa. I tried the Egg Nog Hot Chocolate and hubby tried the White Mocha with whip creme, DELICIOUS. The kiddos had to get their infamous sprinkles, marshmallows, and whip creme. It didn’t stand a chance with Mr. Maverick, he finished it in under 2 minutes LOL. We also picked up a few local favorites like pure honey and honey sticks. The Kraken has an assortment of treats and we got one of each. After we filled our bellies, we headed outside for one more photo in the beautiful downtown Elizabeth City.
I truly hope you make your way down to Elizabeth City before January 15th to experience the Hot Cocoa Capital. Do you like newsletters? Get a bi-weekly newsletter from me. I promise I will not spam you! Subscribe here If you’re not, Follow me on Instagram and Tik Tok.
